Encounter 2020 Recap

Thank you to the over 500 women who attended Encounter: A Weekend for Women in February!  While we know that Lisa-Jo Baker’s stories and encouragement in friendship are still fresh in your mind, we hope everything learned at Encounter helps cultivate friendships for years to come.

Here are a few reflections and highlights from Encounter 2020:

Encounter Lisa Jo

“For me, listening to Lisa-Jo Baker was the most memorable part of Encounter. She was so relatable and funny, that I was so excited to hear her speak at each session.” -Andrea Pennings

At Encounter, Lisa-Jo gave many great sessions, and she also gave women an opportunity to look at what their “action-plan” would be after this event – identifying friends they may need to forgive or ask forgiveness of. The weekend ended by women crumpling their past hurts and throwing them into a box and exchanging them for a Friendship Promise. It was a wonderful exercise.

Encounter Photobooth

“I loved that Encounter was on the topic of friendship and the attitude of “Go and Be”.  As I walked through the weekend, I felt that more women were super courageous in taking the first step in casually talking to me without hesitation...I literally had women talking to me anytime we found ourselves in a line waiting.  Just small talk, but sweet conversation nonetheless.” -Connie Hoehne

At "Girls’ Night In" on Friday, there were a record number of women in attendance– 400! We made a friendship bracelet or bookmark and took pictures at the photo booth while enjoying an ice cream sundae bar.

Encounter Friends

“I saw God move at Encounter when there were women who chose to follow Jesus. I was moved, and it brought me to tears just to see women make that leap of faith. It reminded me of my baptism, which was one of the best decisions that I have made to this day.”-Amy Otte

Joy Berry delivered a powerful and moving testimony that gave ALL the glory to God. She asked women to stand to accept Jesus or to simply overcome deep wounds. Approximately 17 women stood. Tears flowed, and many stopped by the prayer room afterward.

Encounter Worship

"Retreat is my favorite weekend of the year, because it’s a reset for what’s coming. A time of prayer, accountability, and planning for the year ahead. Although I am always excited to get back to my family, the time spent alone is refreshing to my soul. Jesus is so so good."-Sami Moore

A special thank you to the over 100 volunteers and committee members that made Encounter possible! Thank you for making Encounter welcoming and refreshing to the women in attendance.
